Rewarding and recognising staff and volunteers is the
best part of my role as CEO of Southcare.
Southcare Awards Ceremony |
Yesterday we recognised staff and volunteers who have
achieved a range of things including:
- Graduates from the 2014 Spirit of Southcare Leadership Programme
- Staff and Volunteers who have shown through 2014 that they are Living the Southcare Values in their daily work
- Staff and Volunteers who have given over 5, 10, 15 and 20 years of service to Southcare
- The CEO’s Outstanding Performance Award – this was awarded to Wynton Maddeford the CFO
- The Helen Moore Service Award for outstanding Volunteer service – this was awarded to Irene Yeomans
Apart from the obvious
joy that this event brings to the people who have been rewarded, we know at
Southcare that our ongoing success depends to a large extent on having highly
motivated staff and volunteers who are productive, creative and committed.
We understand the
important link between motivation and performance because we take the time to
discover what motivates our staff and volunteers through ongoing schedule
catch-ups, staff meetings, staff surveys, forums and annual performance
development reviews.
Whilst we do pay above
award salaries we know that recognition and other incentives help to keep staff
and volunteers highly-motivated and prepared to go that extra distance.
We invest heavily in
developing our people. This is demonstrated though our in-house Spirit of
Southcare Leadership Programme, Leadership Retreats, supporting staff to
undertake Diploma courses relevant to their roles, and training, conferences,
mentoring, coaching, webinars and job shadowing.
We are also very
committed to effective governance and invest in our Board and building the
capacity of the sector through our Engaging Young Leaders on Aged Care and
Community Boards.
It is not hard to
acknowledge and recognise good work, and we can never underestimate the value
of a conversation for appreciation.
