Yesterday I attended the GRAI AGM – for those of you unfamiliar
with the work of GRAI – GLBTI Rights in Ageing Inc this organisation aims to
create a responsive and inclusive mature age environment that promotes and
supports a quality life for older people of diverse sexuality and gender identities.
How proud I was to sit at the meeting and hear how Lisa
Rynne has been very influential in promoting the ‘Right to Belong’ training project
to aged care providers.
GRAI is offering training to aged care providers, which:
- Will Increase awareness of LGBTI clients
- Will assist aged care providers comply with new legal requirements
- Is in-house – they come to you
- Is free ( funded by the Commonwealth government
I then had great satisfaction in hearing Cettina Raccuia
present the Treasurers report, Cettina demonstrated a great understanding of
the financials and the audit process.
As I reflect on the meeting, the work of GRAI and our Engaging Young Leaders on Aged Care and Community Boards, I am even more convinced that the way to a
healthy inclusive society is for you to have deep conversations with a diverse range of people, where
you listen to each other, share your concerns and develop ways to collaborate to achieve your objectives
.
